After an unsuccessful trip to Lake Ray Hubbard, Quentin and I decided to head
to a small creek in Forney Texas, five miles from Lake Ray Hubbard. Not one for wasting bait, I decided to throw on two crappie
minnows, one dead one alive to see what would bite. After fifteen minutes of eating sunflower seeds and cracking jokes with
Quentin, finally some action. I caught this fifty pound blue catfish. What a drag busting experience! It took
about forty-five minutes, not to mention Quentin had to wade in the creek during the middle of the night to net
the fish. My twelve pound berkley big game line, Shimano 4000FD reel,
and seven foot medium action rod made for the fight of a lifetime.

Parsonal record 60 pound flathead!!!
May 16th about 12:30am
in the morning, there we are sitting along side the Trinity river at River Park in Fort Worth. After some successful early
carp fishing it was now getting dark out so we got to the business at hand. The night before we were there in the middle
of a North Texas thunder storm while it was raining like cats and dogs, and we manage to catch 3 nice size channel catfish,
one 10 pounds another 7 and the smallest a 5 pounder, using fresh dead shad. This night we had left over
shad from the night before, live shad, and live perch which we caught in the cast net out at lake Benbrook. At dusk
we set out 6 rods, two rods with each type of bait. After that storm the night before the water had risen
drastically and there was lots of debris floating down the river with the strong currant. Needless to say the
bite was very slow, so the majority of our time was spent sitting around the fire watching the rods. One 5 pound drum
and two soft shell turtles later, finely some action. My seven foot bait cast rod took off straight for the river when Chris grabbed
it and set the hook and nothing happened. Thinking it was snagged he past the rod to me and I began to
pull. Whatever it was snagged on was coming in, then with a sudden burst of energy it took off up river and I knew
this was no rock. Ten minutes later I finely got the fish close enough to see that it was a catfish and not
just any catfish, a monster flathead. After another 10 minutes of fighting the fish and I were both exhausted
and I managed to get him close enough for Anthony to force his arm in the fishes mouth and drag him
onto the bank. This 60 pound flathead catfish is the biggest catfish I have ever caught on
a rod and reel in my live. With the help of Anthony and Chris I was able to set a personal record
and share it with you here on urbansportfishing.net.
