Urban areas provide some of the best places to target some of your favorite types of game fish. Most think that they would need to travel to the biggest lake or on the most known river in the area in order to catch the most and biggest fish, this is not true.  What fails to be recognized is that some of the most prominent places to fish are right in your back yard. As you make your daily commutes around your city, you should stop to notice that there are creeks, rivers and ponds at every turn. Most of these places are usually lightly fished, if not un-fished at all.  The beauty of this is that the fish get to grow in there natural habitat undisturbed which allows them to grow to incredible sizes. Depending on the type of game you are targeting , this will determine which of these locations you would want to fish for example if you are looking for monster catfish what better place that an untouched section of river in the middle of the city. Personally some of the best cat fishing I have done over the last several years have been in the Trinity River throughout the Dallas/ Fort Wortharea or creeks that run off the river i.e. white rock creek.

In most rivers or creeks that run through urban areas there are dams that provide perfect locations for bait to gather which attracts fish. The best part of this is that more than likely you will be the only one there, sort of like your own piece of nature in the middle of a concrete jungle.  Another great find would be the abundance of neighborhood  and park ponds. For those of you who are on the hunt for the ?slab? Crappie  but don?t have a boat or have the time to troll around the lake looking for them, a pond provides the perfect alternative. Fishing ponds as well as creeks give you the ability to be versatile in your approach even with out having a boat. When fishing Crappie you will notice that they are very season driven, for instance when the water temps go up they move deep and when it is cooler they are known to go shallow. In this case the accessibility of an pond or creek will allow you to move to the best location according to the weather patterns. Also with these types of locations they are usually easy to access but under fished, which allows to fish to grow to their maximum potential.

Most neighborhood ponds are catch and release so if you are looking to enjoy your catch a creek would be the best option. Not only are these areas good for catfish and crappie they are great areas to explore for any fresh water  species. With the abundance of creeks and ponds as well as river system in metropolitan areas there is a great potential to bust somthin so GET YOUR LINE WETtm!!!
